Antwort
TAPI (Telephony Applications Programming Interface) is a standardized interface inWindows 9x, Me and Windows NT/2000 which allows communication with end telephonedevices from suitable TAPI-compatible applications. It can be used to allowtasks such as the automatic dialing of a number stored on computer or the identificationof the current caller to the PC before the call is accepted. So, for example, when an incoming call is received via a TAPI-capable database adata set for the calling customer together with all relevant information (for examplename, subject of previous calls and so on) can be displayed on the screen as soon asthe first ring is heard. TAPI support for DvISE is provided by the DvISE Telefony ServiceProvider Interface.

System requirements
In order to use the TAPI services under DvISE, the connection from the DvISE serversto the telephone network must be made using a CAPI 2.0-based ISDN card. In addition, this card must also support supplementary services in the same way as the telephonesystem.

If you are using a Brooktrout card which provides the characteristics of ISDN on ananalog telephone network, certain TAPI functions may not be available. For more informationplease read the documentation that came with the card.

In the DvISE port configuration, you must make sure that for each ISDN TLD, whichis to provide TAPI functionality, the »Supported Service« is set to »ECT«. If notificationfor incoming calls is to be used, the DvISE script being used must contain the relevantfunctions. The standard script which is activated as soon as David, David Oneor David Professional is installed contains these functions although they must be activatedexplicitly.

Installation
In order to install TAPI support, run the file SETUP.EXE which is contained in the directoryDAVID\CLIENTS\WINDOWS\TAPI on the DvISE server. Installation then takes placeautomatically. Now check whether you location information is correctly entered in thesystem control under the point »Telephony«. If no details have previously been enteredhere, you will be automatically asked for them as soon as you open this menu item.

Now click on the »Telephony Driver« tab and select the entry »DvISE Telephony ServiceProvider« and click on »Configure...«. Make sure that the correct number for yourlocal telephone (for example, *333; the asterisk »*« indicates that this number is aninternal number and prevents it being dialed as an outside number) is entered underthe point »Local Site«. Now configure the way the system is to respond to incomingcalls - do this by activating the desired functions under the appropriate menu items.

The Tobit InfoCenter dialing aid does not access this data from the Windows systemcontrol but instead gets this information directly from the configuration in the Tobit InfoCenter. For this reason it is necessary to enter the telephone number for the local sitein the Tobit InfoCenter configuration for all workstations which are to use the dialingaid. Select the point »Options -> Settings« and insert the number in the appropriatefield on the »User Profile« tab.

Automatic notification in the event of an incoming call
When an incoming call is received, it is possible to create automatic notificationswhich include the name of the caller as well as other important information such asprevious correspondence with this person or similar. This can be achieved in conjunctionwith a suitable TAPI-capable application from a third-party supplier. Naturally, this is only possible if the calling party sends its number and if the incoming call isreceived on a suitable DvISE communications port.

If this is the case, DvISE creates an ASCII file in the directory DAVID\CLIENTS\WINDOWS\TAPI on the server which uses the internal extension number of the dialed localsite as the file name. This file contains the telephone number of the caller.

If, for example, a customer with the telephone number 123 45678 calls the local sitewith the extension number (DDI) 333, a file called »333.« is created in the directorymentioned above. The content of this file is 123 45678. The »DvISE Telefony ServiceProvider« constantly scans this directory for files like this. Once it finds a file like this, the information contained in the file is read and made available via the TAPI interface.

In order to use this function, the function »Register incoming calls with TAPI applications« must be activated in the DvISE Telefony Service Provider configuration(»System control/Telephony/Telephone Driver«; see also the section on »Installation«). An additional requirement is that a suitable DvISE script be used. The standardscript which is activated when DvISE is installed contains the necessary functions. Ifyou need to make any modifications to the script, you can edit the script using theDvISE Communication Controller (-> chapter 9). The TAPI functions are containedin the group called »TAPI«.
