PGP (Pretty Good Privacy) allows to encrypt eMails; with version 6.5.8 as well as with version 7.0.3/7.1 there are special plugins available for Exchange, Outlook and Outlook Express which simplifies the integration accordingly.

The plugin to use PGP is the DVPGP.DLL (until version 6.5.8) and the DVPGP7.DLL (version 7.0.3/7.1). These files can be found in the directory "DAVID\CLIENTS\WINDOWS«. Depending on the PGP version, one of the two files needs to be copied to the local InfoCenter directory.

You should avoid a simultaneous use of both libraries. Therefore please make sure to adjust the SETUP.INF in the »DAVID\CLIENTS« directory that the desired PGP plugin is added or resp. removed (commented out). Thus only the correct plugin will be installed during future InfoCenter installations.

In the following example the DVPGP.DLL was commented out:

    [SETUPFILES]
    ...
    ;DVPGP.DLL=#
    DVPGP7.DLL=#
    ...
For the currently executed InfoCenter installation, please remove the unnecessary plugin from the InfoCenter directory.

An encryption of the eMails is thus done fully client-sided, based on the PGP version in use and the Public Key used by the recipient. The server does not have any influence on the encryption and handles the eMail like any other mail.

The library used works as the interface between the InfoCenter and PGP whereas the InfoCenter is extended by many buttons and which allows an encryption of a plain text documents in exchange with PGP. The correct allocation of the necessary Public Key to the used eMail address is done by PGP whereas the corresponding PGP selection window "PGP Keys" pops up if a proper Public Key is not available.

You as the sender cannot only encrypt the data, but you are also able to sign the document. Such an electronic signature ensures, that the message is authentic and thus identifies you without doubt.

Further information about the use of PGP in the InfoCenter can be found in KnowledgeBase Article Q-100.636.

PGP in version 8 is only supported as of David V8. Please find further information in KnowledgeBase Article Q-106.897.
