Installing and configuring the DvISE OCR Server

Installation:

  • Always install the DvISE OCR Server on a separate computer that is not used as a workstation if possible.
  • Start the setup from the »\OCR« directory on the current product CD. The necessary files will be copied and you will then be required to fill in the configuration dialog.
  • If you have performed an update or a StepUp of your DvISE installation, you must compare the files DAVIDLIB.DLL and TOBIT32.DLL in the »WINNT\SYSTEM32« directory both on the David server and on the computer where the DvISE OCR server is installed to check that file size and version are identical. If necessary, copy the newer files from the David Server to the other computer and then restart the »DvISE OCR Server« service.
Configuration:

  • ”Configuration” tab
    • Input Filter:
Select the behavior for converting faxes here.

      Receive Requests: only received faxes
      Send Requests: only sent faxes
      Receive/Send Requests:
      both received and sent faxes
      Duplog Archives:
With this setting, only documents are converted that are defined via the Duplog entry in DAVID.INI, e.g.

      DUPLOG = {TX|DocType=0}+\\SERVERNAME\DAVID\ARCHIVE\OCR\OUT\ARCHIVE.DAT
      DUPLOG = {RX|DocType=0}\\SERVERNAME\DAVID\ARCHIVE\OCR\IN\ARCHIVE.DAT

This means that exclusively faxes are generated as links, separated into only successfully sent fax jobs and all received fax jobs, in the respective Archive.DATs of the archives »Archives -> OCR -> Inbox« and »Archives -> OCR -> Outbox«, and converted via the DvISE OCR Server. You can create these archives via the Tobit InfoCenter under »Archives« by entering the string »OCR{OCR}« as the new archive name and then creating an inbox and an outbox in this archive by means of »Inbox{IN}« and »Outbox{OUT}«. After adding these strings to DAVID.INI (»DAVID\CODE«) and changing the input filter to “Archive Duplog,” the »DvISE Service Layer« and »DvISE OCR Server« services must be restarted.

      Note:
Avoid working without separating send and receive logs and without setting the document type to 0, as otherwise if this setting is used the DvISE OCR server cannot function correctly. The example given above is the ideal entry in most cases.

    • Processor utilization:
Set the priority and maximum CPU utilization of the DvISE OCR Server here. A high setting is recommended if the DvISE OCR Server is installed on a separate computer; if it is installed on the David Server, the setting should be “Medium” at most.
      Available settings are:
      Low
      Medium
      High

    • Dictionary:
The dictionaries required for conversion can be selected here.
      Available settings are:
      German
      English
      French

    • Server:
This button allows you to directly access the David Server via the network neighborhood and thus the UNC path. After the David Server, also select the »DAVID\CODE« directory to enable access to DAVID.DAT there.

    • User:
Preferably select the administrator or an equivalent user account as a user that has full access to the David folder structure. Here too you should use the button to make your selection. This user is entered as the user starting the service for the »DvISE OCR Server« service.

    • Password:
The password of the user starting the service.

    • Frame settings:
The frame settings define the offset from the top, bottom, left and right edge of the fax, and thus allow you to specify the area to be converted by the DvISE OCR server.

      Note:
Clearly defining an area instead of leaving the values at 0px results in faster conversion and thus lower CPU utilization. The optimal value depends on the contents of your faxes to be sent or received, and should therefore be set to an adapted generally applicable value.

  • ”Export formats” tab
It is generally recommended to set the export format exclusively to »8-Bit Text« here and not add any further formats.
